into the void...

An interesting old game trope I don't seem to see as often anymore is the inclusion of special stages. Besides mixing things up (usually both visually, and through specific gameplay mechanics), in my mind, they remain a quintessential video game hallmark, and thus I decided very early on that I wanted them in my own game.

Kitty Come Home will have five (or, that's the plan, thus far...)psychedelic special zones, accessible from certain levels in each world. The main goal for these levels is to snag 100 floating collectibles littered throughout--the caveat here is that their designs will be far more fiendish than the layout of the normal game areas, and to collect all 100 items, the player will need to be on top of their game and maybe even replay the zones several times to learn the best paths.

To make up for an increase in difficulty, once you discover a special level in a particular zone, an entrance will be available in that world's hub zone, so you can go back and try again if you don't complete it the first time.

And yes, there is something pretty neat to be had if you manage to finish all 5 stages...
